How to Fill a Kerosene Lighter: Step-by-Step Guide

How to Fill a Kerosene Lighter: Step-by-Step Guide

When it comes to refueling your kerosene lighter, there are two main methods depending on the type of lighter you own. Whether you need to remove the inner mechanism or open a screw to refill it, following these instructions carefully will ensure your lighter continues to function perfectly.

Types of Refueling Methods for Kerosene Lighters

  •  A: Remove the inner mechanism and refill
  • B: Refill through the bottom or side screw

A: Remove the Inner Mechanism and Refill

  1. Carefully remove the inner mechanism from the lighter.
  2. Turn the inner mechanism upside down.
  3. Lift the cotton pad at the bottom of the inner mechanism and slowly pour kerosene into it until the cotton is soaked.
  4. Once you've finished refueling, return the inner mechanism to its original position.
  5. Make sure to wipe off any excess fuel around the cotton area, especially near the ignition point, to prevent any risk of ignition.

B: Refill Through the Bottom or Side Screw

  1. Make sure to use kerosene specifically designed for lighters.
  2. Open the ignition cover.
  3. Unscrew the bottom or side screw to reveal the refueling hole.
  4. Carefully and slowly pour the kerosene into the tank until the cotton inside is thoroughly soaked. Ensure that the ignition cotton near the spark wheel remains dry.

Important Tips for Refueling

  • Do not wet the spark wheel. If it gets wet, it will fail to produce sparks and your lighter won't light. If it happens, you can use a hairdryer to dry the wheel and replace the stone if needed.
  • Ensure the outer casing of the lighter is dry before using it to avoid any fire hazards.
  • Regularly check and trim the cotton wick to maintain the lighter's performance.
  • After refueling, store your lighter away from open flames or high temperatures to prevent accidents.

Why THORENS Lighters are a Great Choice

Once filled, a good kerosene lighter can last for a long time, even up to a month, before needing a refill. Take the THORENS lighters, for example. Our classic single-claw and double-claw series are known for their high-quality sealing mechanism, ensuring a longer lifespan.

The sealed ignition area and refueling screw help prevent kerosene evaporation, so even after a month, you can easily ignite your THORENS lighter. The quality and sealing mechanism make a huge difference in how long your lighter lasts and how well it functions.
