Product Details
Crafted from precision-machined brass, the Single-Claw lighter is engineered for structural stability, balanced weight, and long-term durability. The brass surface is designed to age naturally, developing a distinctive patina that reflects years of use rather than wear.
Automatic single-claw ignition mechanism with exposed mechanical action
Everyday carry, mechanical lighter ritual, pipe and cigar lighting
As the first automatic lighter introduced by THORENS, the Single-Claw design reflects the brand’s early exploration of mechanical ignition systems. Its exposed structure highlights the Swiss approach to engineering—functional, precise, and intentionally visible.
Swiss mechanical single-claw lighter with visible ignition mechanism
Parts & Accessories
This THORENS Spirit Claw lighter is a vintage soft flame brass fluid lighter built around a solid brass body, automatic Single Claw ignition, a refillable fluid system, Safety Lock design, a hand-engraved aged brass surface, and an independent serial number engraved on the bottom. It is designed for collectors and everyday carriers who value visible mechanics, hand engraving, and the feel of a substantial Swiss-designed mechanical lighter.
As the lid opens, the Single Claw mechanism engages the flint wheel to create a bright spark and ignite the soft flame. After ignition, the internal mechanism remains visible, so the ignition action is not hidden inside the case. The sound of the claw, the resistance of the mechanism, and the visible movement give this lighter a more deliberate feel than an ordinary disposable lighter.
Each Hand-Carved lighter starts as a solid brass body and is engraved by hand using traditional metal engraving tools rather than laser or automated processes. The surface patterns are cut line by line with hand engraving gravers, with each piece requiring at least two hours of focused manual engraving. After engraving, each lighter is sanded, polished, and aged by hand to bring out deeper contrast, a darker vintage brass finish, and subtle variation from piece to piece.
Key construction details:
- Refillable fluid lighter system for long-term use
- Automatic ignition driven by the Single Claw mechanical structure
- Solid brass body construction with substantial hand feel
- Safety Lock screw can be tightened to help prevent accidental opening during carry
- Fuel screw with built-in spare flint storage compartment
This lighter is suitable for:
- Collectors looking for a hand-engraved mechanical lighter with visible ignition movement
- Users who prefer a vintage soft flame brass fluid lighter over disposable or plastic lighters
- Everyday carry users who value solid brass weight, tactile feedback, and refillable use
- Buyers looking for a luxury collectible lighter, premium gift for men, gift for husband, or Swiss-designed mechanical lighter
It may not be ideal if:
- You prefer butane jet-flame or torch-style lighters
- You want a disposable or maintenance-free lighter
- You prefer a perfectly uniform machine-finished surface instead of hand engraving, aged finishing, and individual surface variation
Proper refilling, flint replacement, and routine care help maintain reliable ignition performance while preserving the lighter’s hand-engraved surface, aged brass finish, and mechanical character over time.

Hand-Carved Craftsmanship
Each Hand-Carved lighter begins as a solid brass body, individually hand-engraved using traditional metal engraving techniques rather than automated or laser processes.
Surface patterns are carved line by line with hand engraving gravers, with each piece requiring at least two hours of focused manual engraving.
Following engraving, each lighter is hand-finished through manual sanding, polishing, and a controlled vintage aging process to enhance depth, contrast, and tactile character.
Created exclusively within the THORENS workshop, the Hand-Carved Series reflects a Swiss-designed approach to craftsmanship where individual variation is intentionally preserved.
