Product Descriptions
THORENS Trench Lighter - Battle Soul - Hand Carved Cracks is a refillable solid-brass mechanical soft-flame lighter featuring a dark aged brass finish, hand-carved crack patterns, a slim cylindrical body inspired by WW1 trench lighters, an exposed side sliding structure, manual flint-wheel ignition, wind-resistant construction, a removable fuel chamber, and a traditional wick soft-flame system. The irregular crack patterns across the body and side mechanical components are carved by hand, so the position, direction, and fine details of the pattern vary slightly from one lighter to another.
To ignite, move the exposed side sliding structure downward to place the lighter into its ready-to-light position; then manually rotate the flint wheel so it strikes the flint, creates sparks, and ignites the traditional wick soft flame. Windproof openings around the flame area help reduce the direct effect of light outdoor airflow on the wick and flame, improving flame stability during everyday carry, camping, and light outdoor use.
The removable fuel chamber can be taken out of the main body and lit separately for short-term use as a small standalone standing flame source, giving the Trench Lighter structure an additional function beyond conventional handheld ignition. The lighter uses standard lighter fluid and can be refilled repeatedly, while also supporting flint replacement, wick maintenance, and routine cleaning.
Key Construction Details:
• Refillable solid-brass mechanical soft-flame lighter using standard lighter fluid
• Dark aged brass finish with hand-carved crack patterns, with subtle variations from piece to piece
• Slim cylindrical body inspired by WW1 trench lighters with an exposed side sliding structure
• Side sliding structure moves downward to place the lighter into its ready-to-light position
• Manual flint-wheel ignition paired with a traditional wick soft flame and windproof openings
• Removable fuel chamber can be taken out of the main body and used as a small standalone standing flame source
This Lighter Is Suitable For:
• Collectors who appreciate trench lighters, WW1-inspired styling, and vintage mechanical construction
• Users who appreciate hand-carved crack patterns, dark aged brass finishes, and naturally non-uniform surface details
• Users who prefer manual flint-wheel ignition and a traditional wick soft flame
• Buyers who enjoy exposed side sliding structures and clearly visible mechanical operation
• Collectors who appreciate the removable fuel chamber and separate standing-flame function
It May Not Be Ideal If:
• You prefer butane torch or jet-flame lighters
• You want automatic ignition or a one-step ignition system
• You prefer a completely smooth and uniform surface without variations from hand carving
• You do not want to manually operate both the side sliding structure and flint wheel during ignition
• You do not want to refill lighter fluid, replace flints, maintain the wick, or perform basic cleaning over time
Regular refilling, proper flint replacement, wick care, and cleaning around the flint wheel, exposed side sliding structure, and flame area help maintain reliable ignition performance and smooth mechanical operation. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the hand-carved crack-pattern surface, and avoid abrasive cleaning materials that may affect the aged brass finish or carved details. After using the removable fuel chamber as a standalone standing flame source, make sure the flame is fully extinguished before reinstalling it into the main body.

Hand-Carved Craftsmanship
Each Hand-Carved lighter begins as a solid brass body, individually hand-engraved using traditional metal engraving techniques rather than automated or laser processes.
Surface patterns are carved line by line with hand engraving gravers, with each piece requiring at least two hours of focused manual engraving.
Following engraving, each lighter is hand-finished through manual sanding, polishing, and a controlled vintage aging process to enhance depth, contrast, and tactile character.
Created exclusively within the THORENS workshop, the Hand-Carved Series reflects a Swiss-designed approach to craftsmanship where individual variation is intentionally preserved.
