Product Descriptions
THORENS Mechanical Grip - Grand Gear - Antique Bronze is a hand-assembled refillable mechanical soft-flame lighter built with a solid brass body, fully detachable construction, Antique Bronze aged finish, Lift-Arm opening mechanism, manual flint-wheel ignition system, traditional wick soft flame, and a layered arrangement of large exposed gears, screws, springs, metal tubing, and connecting components. The Grand Gear version places greater emphasis on the prominent front gear and visible mechanical structure, giving the lighter a substantial, dimensional vintage-industrial appearance.
To ignite, operate the Lift-Arm opening mechanism to expose the wick, then rotate the flint wheel with your thumb. The wheel strikes the flint to generate sparks and ignite the traditional wick soft flame. The ignition system is entirely mechanical and uses no electronic components. The lighter uses standard lighter fluid and supports refilling, flint replacement, and wick maintenance.
The exterior features an Antique Bronze aged finish combined with the Grand Gear front gear, exposed screws, springs, metal tubing, and open mechanical contours to create a dense, dimensional surface. The large front gear can be rotated by hand and produces a distinct clicking sound as it turns, allowing the mechanical movement to be both seen and heard. The entire lighter is fully detachable and reassemblable for component inspection, cleaning, and basic maintenance. A handwoven leather lanyard with copper bead details adds a contrasting tactile element to the metal body. Because each lighter is hand-assembled and hand-finished, subtle variations in texture, aged coloration, light surface marks, and finishing may occur from piece to piece, giving each lighter a slightly different handcrafted appearance.
Key Construction Details:
• Hand-assembled mechanical soft-flame lighter with a solid brass body
• Refillable fluid lighter system using standard lighter fluid
• Fully detachable and reassemblable construction for inspection, cleaning, and basic maintenance
• Lift-Arm opening mechanism paired with manual flint-wheel ignition
• Grand Gear front gear can be rotated by hand and produces a distinct clicking sound
• Antique Bronze aged finish with exposed screws, springs, metal tubing, handwoven leather lanyard, and copper bead details
This Lighter Is Suitable For:
• Collectors who appreciate Steampunk styling, vintage industrial design, and exposed mechanical construction
• Users who prefer manual flint-wheel ignition and a traditional wick soft flame
• Buyers who enjoy large movable gears, visible mechanical details, and audible clicking feedback
• Users who enjoy mechanical objects that can be disassembled, inspected, reassembled, and maintained
• Buyers looking for a mechanical lighter suitable for everyday use, desk display, handling, or collection
It May Not Be Ideal If:
• You prefer butane torch or jet-flame lighters
• You want automatic ignition, electronic ignition, or a simplified one-step ignition system
• You prefer an ultra-lightweight, minimalist lighter with hidden mechanical components
• You prefer products without the subtle surface variations associated with hand assembly and aged finishing
• You do not want to refill lighter fluid, replace flints, maintain the wick, or perform basic cleaning over time
Regular refilling, proper flint replacement, wick care, and cleaning around the flint wheel and exposed gear areas help maintain reliable ignition performance and normal mechanical operation. When disassembling components for inspection or maintenance, reinstall them in their original positions and avoid overtightening screws to help protect the mechanical connections and Antique Bronze finish.
