Hand-Carved Series

Workshop-Engraved Editions Across the THORENS Collection

The Hand-Carved Series represents THORENS’ workshop-level approach to surface craftsmanship, bringing traditional hand engraving into selected mechanical designs across the collection. Rather than forming a single structural category, this series gathers individually engraved pieces based on a shared craft process, regardless of their underlying ignition mechanism or form.

Each Hand-Carved lighter begins as a standard THORENS design—such as Single-Claw, Double-Claw, or Square Pillar—before undergoing extensive manual engraving within the THORENS workshop. Using traditional metal engraving gravers, surface patterns are carved line by line, followed by hand finishing, polishing, and controlled vintage aging. No two pieces share identical engraving patterns, as variation is preserved as a mark of craftsmanship rather than eliminated.

By presenting these works together, the Hand-Carved Series functions as a curated selection of workshop editions, emphasizing time, manual skill, and individual character over uniform repetition. It reflects a distinct value system within THORENS—where mechanical precision provides the foundation, and hand engraving introduces individuality, depth, and collectibility.
