A Workshop-Level Answer to Surface Craftsmanship
The Hand-Carved Series is THORENS’ workshop-level response to surface artistry—bringing traditional hand engraving to our classic mechanical designs, and giving each piece a second life beyond its mechanism.
This is not a single structural category, but a carefully selected group of workshop editions. Whether the base is Single-Claw, Double-Claw, or Square Pillar, any lighter that enters the same hand-engraving process becomes part of the Hand-Carved Series.
Each piece begins as a standard THORENS design, then is entrusted to an artisan who engraves it line by line using traditional gravers. The pattern is cut—not replicated. It is then hand-refined and polished, followed by controlled vintage aging to reveal deeper highlights, richer shadows, and a quiet sense of time in the metal.
We choose to preserve variation.
Hand engraving does not pursue absolute uniformity—because uniformity would erase the human presence. Subtle shifts in pressure, the rhythm of each line, and the faint contours left by hand polishing are not flaws. They are signatures of craft: proof of touch.
So we say this with intention: please allow imperfection to exist.
Every mark comes from real engraving and real finishing. That honesty—unrepeatable by design—is what makes each piece worthy of collecting, carrying, and living with.
In the THORENS value system, mechanical precision is the framework—and hand engraving is the soul.
The Hand-Carved Series does not compromise for mass repetition. It answers only to time, skill, and individuality.
