Product Descriptions
This Single Claw Glossy Side Fill lighter is a vintage soft flame brass fluid lighter crafted with a solid brass body, automatic ignition, a refillable fluid system, side refilling design, Safety Lock design, an electroplated glossy black finish, THORENS brand engraving, and an independent serial number engraved on the bottom. It is made for users who appreciate visible mechanical movement, refined metal craftsmanship, and a more ceremonial everyday carry experience.
When the lid is opened, the Single Claw mechanism engages the flint wheel to create a bright spark and ignite the soft flame. After ignition, the internal mechanism remains visible, so the full mechanical ignition process can be seen in motion. The crisp sound, controlled resistance, and visible action give this lighter a more tactile and deliberate feel than ordinary convenience-driven lighters.
Key structural details:
- Refillable fluid lighter system for long-term use
- Side refilling port for routine fuel maintenance
- Automatic ignition driven by the Single Claw mechanical structure
- Solid brass body construction with substantial hand feel
- Safety Lock screw can be tightened to help prevent accidental opening during carry
This lighter is suitable for:
- Users who appreciate vintage soft flame lighters with mechanical character
- Collectors who enjoy visible ignition movement and classic Single Claw mechanical design
- Everyday carry users who prefer solid brass weight, tactile feedback, and a refillable design
- Buyers looking for a refined mechanical lighter, collectible lighter, or distinctive gift for men
It may not be ideal if:
- You prefer butane jet-flame or torch-style lighters
- You want a disposable or maintenance-free lighter
- You prefer ultra-lightweight plastic lighters instead of solid brass construction
Regular refilling through the side port, flint replacement, and basic wick care help maintain consistent ignition performance while preserving the lighter’s electroplated glossy black finish, THORENS brand engraving, and mechanical character over time.

Overall great build quality!, but I had some of the gold plating fall off from the screw head very quickly, leaving a white paint undercoat.
I recommend buying it!

The Worst lighter I have ever bought. The claw flies off the striking wheel all the time. I have lost numerous flins because the flint lock spring opens when the claw flies up.

First Thorens lighter. Surprisingly solid feeling compared to US competition. Works beautifully, looks and feels great. Well packaged and feels like it will last a lifetime. All the paterning lines up between the 'lid' and the body of the lighter. Very impressed and think this'll see me out!

Extra super!!! Quality!!!

Gorgeous lighter; very well machined parts. I can’t feel much, if any, play or wobble between the parts. It’s also lit wvey single time I open it, assuming there’s fuel in it.

Beautiful lighter and works every time.would like if the quench cap was moved back a few millimeters in the top so it would stop squashing the wick but otherwise a great lighter

In a world of pointless throw away excesses, Thorens has stayed true to its original and timeless values. My Single claw lighter is a mix of high quality craftsmanship style and function. Glad to see Thorens have stuck with their winning formula and long may it continue. An excellent lighter.
